I remember sitting in the front row and noticing the actor's nose hairs onstage- I was that close! It was an off-Broadway show featuring a familiar face I'd seen on television. The acting was truly superb, and I absolutely loved the thrill of being so near to a TV actor.
In our theater, that closeness is part of the charm! It's an intimate space that creates a special connection between performers and the audience. You can find such cozy theaters in places like North Hollywood, Studio City, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York City. I'm sure there are many others out there, but those are the wonderful spots I've visited.
Honestly, experiencing fine theater in small venues is such a delightful treat! However, what can be less enjoyable is when the actors in these intimate settings don’t connect with each other, seeming too focused on their own skills. In those cases, a one-person show might suit them better.
At Hanford Multicultural Theater, we're certainly open to that idea! In fact, we've never hosted a one-person play yet, but we've had tons of fun with stand-up comics who thrive in that solo spotlight!
Since we are a nurturing environment, anyone reading this column who would like to write something for themselves and try it on our stage is welcome to do so. We would even assist with our nurturing skills. In fact, nurturing is our mission.
Please let us know if this interests you. Also, come to our plays this weekend to see three two-person performances. Watching the relationship between the two actors is a delight, especially when done well. These local actors excel at it.
Tickets are available online until the day of the show when they must be purchased at the door. Discounts are available. This is our last weekend for THE THREE ORIGINAL PLAYS. The show on Saturday is at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, it is at 5:00 p.m. Visit our website at www.HanfordMTC.com for more information and to purchase tickets in advance.
